Ecology: A blog, a tree

Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010

Today we’re starting our new project “A blog, a tree”.  For each blog that writes about this project and uses the selected tree button we will plant (together with “I plant a tree”) a tree. (At our cost.)

Each blogger can choose between 4 tree species, for this blog a pine tree will be planted:
My blog has planted a pine tree.

Please help us spread the word and give us a reason to plant many, many trees. If you want to take part, you can find here more about the project: A blog, a tree.

(And don’t wait too long, we only have 1000 trees to plant.)

Has Microsoft lost its vision?

Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008

Interesting article on ZDNet discussing if Microsoft still has the right focus and vision for desktop computing – or if Apple is taking over. Decide for yourself…

WordPress 2.5

Monday, March 31st, 2008

As Golem writes, the new version of WordPress has just be published. You’ll be reading this blog in the older version for some more weeks at least. There were too many security issues with WordPress in the past, so I’ll think I’ll wait a bit and see what happens before updating… πŸ˜‰

32GB USB Stick! :-O

Friday, December 14th, 2007

As Golem notes Buffalo is going to sell a USB stick with the tiny capacity of 32 GB. (If you want to test your japanese knowledge, the original page is here. πŸ˜‰

Being always fascinated by how much data you can store on small media (not only for my Outlook and File Sync programs) I couldn’t pass on this note. 32 Gig would be enough to store about 24 days of music (at 128 kbit/s). Or (talking about e-mails again) 16 full-blown PST-files (if you still working with the old Outlook format with the size limit ;-).

Sync @ 320 GB

Tuesday, December 4th, 2007

Synchronizing huge amounts of data at remote locations can be difficult. VPN or web services aren’t exactly know for their speed, so ou might want to use a USB hard disk to synchronize and then move it to the second location for another sync. Western Digital is offering a 320 GB hard disk which should be enough for HUGE amounts of data (for file or Outlook sync).

Nice detail: The hard disk gets its power from the USB cable, so you won’t need an extra power connection.

Details and a foto are available on Golem.de.

Back from the ESWC

Monday, November 5th, 2007

I spent this weekend at the European Software Conference in Cologne and heard quite a lot of interesting things about Software. So watch out some changes in the future. πŸ˜‰

By the way, not everything was absolutely serious deadly serious. Here’s Marck Pearlstone and Michael Lehman perfoming “Image just one browser”.

Unexpected songs at the ESWC

By the way, there are already some changes to see on our site. We’ve change the ReplyButler (our Outlook boilerplate add-in) main page. Here are the new and the old versions. If you’d like to comment, please send us an e-mail. (BTW: These links may be outdated in future, when we’ve finished our testing. In that case, simply use the ReplyButler homepage.)

New partner: Synkia

Friday, August 17th, 2007

Our product Easy2Sync for Outlook is great for synchronizing Outlook data on PC, like contact data stored. But it’s not able to make a backup of cell phone data.

To close this gap, we have a new partner: Synkia

Their service allows it to make backups of your cell phone data (like phone number lists) and even to transfer this data to your new mobile phone.

Outlook Backup vs. Virus-Scanner

Monday, March 12th, 2007

As Golem reports, there’s a problem with Microsoft’s OneCare that can lead into the deleting of the entire PST file (which contains all your e-mails). Well, that’s definitely a great protection against e-mail viruses, but perhaps not what you want… πŸ˜‰

As always, doing a backup is a great idea if you like your data.

You can backup or synchronize your Outlook data with Easy2Sync for Outlook. However, if you only want to automate the backup your PST-file, simply use Easy2Sync for Files. Even the Freeware Edition will be good enough for this job. You can get it here: Download Easy2Sync for Files.

Berlin in 3d

Thursday, March 8th, 2007

Is Berlin too far away for you? You can still visit it now, with GoogleEarth. As Golem reports, there’s quite a lot of 3d data available that can be viewed in Google’s software. Quite amazing.

Yet Another Update

Tuesday, January 16th, 2007

No, not Easy2Sync this time. Most people probably won’t even know WordPress but in fact you’re using it right now. It’s a blogging system, quite popular. And because it’s popular, some people may try to attack systems running it. And that’s why there is the second update within a few weeks. Well, that seems to be the world we live in nowadays…
